Magic by default

Updated: Sep 8, 2021

At The Profit Club we also work 1-on-1 with any member if they want to move faster than group pace. Usually it's because there are specific issues in the business that need special attention, or it is because the owner wants to accelerate growth even more and needs some expert help to do so.

When we start such engagements there is often an expectation of the 'silver bullet' from the client - or that we will give them a 'magic pill' to swallow and everything will be okay by morning. Whilst there is usually some amazement at what we achieve in a relatively short time, the real magic is usually in the more mundane concepts.

Like a default diary.

Most business owners we meet are the fire-fighting kind, reacting to the 'now', thinking fast on their feet and problem solving all day long. And they are usually proud of that ability, and yes, it is a skill. But the problem with that kind of management ethos is it doesn't build wealth.

We are currently working with a business who, when we first met them, were hosing down fires all day long, often of their own making.

Having watched for a week or so we then introduced them to the concept of a default diary - a diary where you block out time weeks in advance dedicated to working on the business - not in it. Then, with the addition of a few systems changes and a bit of a workflow re-organisation, we are seeing the magic of the results.

Every lead is now managed, quoted, booked, and signed off in an orderly fashion, no customers are missed and all work is completed on time.

The business is racing back through it's breakeven point and on into significant profitability once again.

All because a bit of discipline was applied to their chaotic world.

Mundane? Yes, maybe.

Magical result? Definitely!

Do you use a default diary in your business?
