Have you ever been in 'The Zone'

Many years ago when I lived in Aussie I once went 2-over par for 9 holes of golf - and I finally understood what 'being in the zone' meant. I couldn't do anything wrong it seemed. It was like there was a life force that had taken me over and I was simply a spectator of my own actions. It didn't last long - and we wont mention what happened on the back nine. But for a while there was a natural rhythm to things that made everything flow oh so easily.

I tell you this because I saw a similar thing in a client's office the other day.

You may remember our story about the 'magic' a default diary can bring to a business. Well, that magic has now created a 'zone' for that client every day - where the work flows in natural sequence of:

1. Enquiry 2. Consult 3. Quote 4. Commit

What a difference this has made! The rhythm comes from the default diary structure of:

  • Monday and Tuesday being dedicated to following up website, phone and email enquiries and doing client consultations.

  • Wednesday is given over to turning the consults into quotes.

  • Thursday and Fridays are dedicated to turning quotes in booked job commitments, usually from the previous week.

Finally, a 30-60 minute meeting every week is all it takes to allocate work to the teams and now everyone knows where to be , when to be there and what to take with them.

As I watched this work flow I saw an owner in the 'business zone' and enjoying every minute of it. All under control and money coming into the bank account every day.

And this time I think the Back 9 will be just fine
